After we rode Trail 401 , the next day we decided to ride the Reno/Flag/Bear/Deadman's that was so highly recommended by the Crested Butte locals. The route goes up Cement Creek Road to Reno Ridge, down Flag Creek Trail to Bear Creek Trail, and then finishes off with Deadman's Gulch trail.
The climbs were fairly tough given the altitude and the fact that motos are allowed on the trail. Some of the uphill single track sections were pretty tough after the motos tilled up the soil. It was sooo worth it for the high speed flowy descents. The descents down Bear Creek and Deadman's gulch were absolutely killer.
Very nice RR! This remains one of my favorite all-time rides. I never miss it when in CB. Jim, that loop looks/sounds awesome, Mark would have loved it, but I was nearly laying on the ground crying before the Deadman's branson mo lodging valentine specials descent... hahaha! All the moto braking bumps sucked my energy (going both down, and especially climbing). Hopefully, I will be in much better shape next time we go! (and we WILL be going again, in fact living there a few years if we win the lotto, branson mo lodging valentine specials haha!)
