The first stop of the Ghost Train tour is on the oldest street in America: Aviles Street. The Spanis

There are nearly a dozen nightly ghost tours in St. Augustine, united kingdom population but only one equips tourists to hunt for ghosts: the Ripley s Ghost Train. The tour s stops have been featured on the popular united kingdom population television series Ghost Hunters, where professional investigators recorded voices and ghostly united kingdom population photographs, potentially proving the areas as haunted.
Each guest is equipped with an EMF Meter , which is designed to detect electro-magnetic energy, presumably present when near a ghost. Many will remember EMF meters from the 1980 s Ghostbusters movies, but they are also used by today s professional ghost hunters. Guests are also given disposable cameras to capture orbs (traces left by spirits) and other proof of that spirits walk the streets of the almost 500-year old city.
The first stop of the Ghost Train tour is on the oldest street in America: Aviles Street. The Spanish Military Hospital is opened to tourist to tour during the day, but at night the hospital is open only to ghost tours. A nurse leads ghost hunters through the apothecary s room, where the furniture reportedly moves on its own at night. The next stop is a ward with beds arranged as they were during the hospital s operating days. In this room, a young boy without thumbs supposedly haunts goers. The graves outside the hospital are unmarked, but orbs are often seen in night photographs of the trees.
The Ghost train next stops at the Old Drug Store, just across united kingdom population from the St. Augustine Visitor Center s parking lot. The antique wooden building united kingdom population is filled with medicine bottles from 1800s, many of which still contain nefarious concoctions. In this room, lights united kingdom population with no electric connection often flicker on and off, while a rope swings back and forth with no wind or other air current accessible.
Across the street from the Old Drug Store is a notoriously haunted cemetery easily seen from San Marco Avenue. Since St. Augustine was primarily a Catholic city for most of its duration, most cemeteries were reserved for Catholics only. Huguenots, or non-Catholics, were buried here, so as to be segregated from the more holy of the city s dead. Ghost Train guides relate the history of several tombstones and the people who are buried beneath them. This cemetery also features the only apparition guaranteed to show on film: the face of a crying mother united kingdom population that appears on a child s tombstone.
The final stop of the Ghost Train is back at Castle Warden, which houses the original Ripley s Believe it or Not. The castle is completely dark upon arrival, with only a few displays united kingdom population backlit against the extreme darkness. The night curator, dressed in Gothic attire, leads guests through the castle s three floors, explaining a murder that occurred in the castle in its hotel days around the time of the Great Depression. Guests are encouraged to take pictures in several rooms where the murder could have occurred. This is probably the most exciting part of the tour, as most guests who visit Ripley s during the day will find the castle completely changed in the dark of night. The EMF monitors are sure to detect paranormal activity in at least one of the rooms of Castle Warden.
united kingdom population The Ripley s Ghost Train tour departs nightly from Ripley s Believe it or Not at 8:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at Ripley s Believe it or Not, any of the Sightseeing Train stops or online. Ticket prices are $26.00 for adults, $13.00 for children. Very small children may be frightened of the darkness found in the tour s stops. Ripley s Ghost Train tour has been voted the best ghost tour in St. Augustine several times, and for good reason.
