My husband and I are just starting to plan a road trip to visit the above locations. We can make it as long as 10 days if necessary. Once you go through those great links Buck provided, you can certainly share what you've come up with for a plan so far. It will be helpful to know things like a starting and ending point. This is a big area, and 10 days can fly by, especially if you've got a significant number of miles to get to/from home.

I do know that we will be flying into South Dakota renting a car for the trip and probably flying home from Salt Lake City. I am not into doing any backtracking. It seemed like Salt Lake was the best/closest major airport from Yellowstone at around 6 hours or so?

Rapid City is a town with only 60,000 people, and is served by a small airport with only a couple aruba luxury car rentals of airlines. I'd expect a one way flight there to be quite expensive, and the one way drop fee for a car rental from there I'd also expect to be significantly higher than even if you were doing a one way coast to coast from major cities.
