BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) Not every kid has the opportunity to travel to Europe, sleep-away camp or take part in other activities that many in Boca would consider to be a rite of passage, which is why FAU s program offering a great day of music education for many in Palm Beach County shouldn t go unnoticed.
Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters comfort inn new york city organized funding through the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund to send 110 elementary student campers to the Teaching Outstanding Performers (TOPS) Band Camp through Friday, July 27 at FAU's Boca Raton campus. Organized by the department of music within the Schmidt College, the camp is attended by students comfort inn new york city from South Grade Elementary and Highland elementary schools in Lake Worth, and K.E. Cunningham Canal Point Elementary School in Belle Glade.
"It has proved to be a wonderful experience for everyone involved," said Kyle Prescott, director of the camp and associate chair of FAU's department of music. comfort inn new york city "The elementary school students receive great instruction, and FAU students gain practical experience in teaching. The camp also serves as a wonderful opportunity to get these students on a college campus. These experiences tend to influence students' later decisions to attend college after high school."
Campers will take part in private lessons, music theory classes, ensemble (band) rehearsals, comfort inn new york city music appreciation classes and other camp activities. The camp is part of a music outreach program that FAU's music department comfort inn new york city has with these schools throughout the year. FAU music students work with South Grade and Highland elementary students under the direction of their elementary school band directors to give private and small group music lessons to at-risk students. This is the ninth summer that the Pew Public Education Fund has assisted the student campers to attend band camp at FAU.
The band directors, Alain Goindoo, Edward Shuman and Emmanuel Fergile, serve as camp counselors along with FAU music students. Debra Barron, former band director for South Grade Elementary School, helped comfort inn new york city launch the summer band camp and will return comfort inn new york city to help this summer.
