You know, when you're on a break with someone and then you get back together and you're soo excited and then those little things start to irk again? Yeah, that's our love/hate affair with the new Plaza .
Don't get us wrong. We are still super happy that the Downtown Vegas hotel really cared about us enough to gussy itself up and put a new spark in its non-Strip appeal. We mean, the fact that it kept its promise and let us back in again scores major points alone. But, now we're getting the sense that the ol' girl isn't as into us as we'd hoped.
A visit to TripAdvisor , shows that while most reviewers are loving the makeover in general, it's the little things that we miss and, sometimes, grate. NascarDonna reports that she recently hooked back up with the Plaza herself:
Used to stay at the Plaza several years ago but got pretty run down so stayed elsewhere. was excited to hear that they had gone through a major renovation so thought we would give it a try. was not disappointed. the rooms are nice, bed comfy with double sheeting. car rental glasgow airport nice hdtv with a wide range of channels, bathroom still small, but adequate, new vanity. no hair dryer or iron/ironing board but was told they are in the process of adding them to the rooms. no coffee in the room and they are not planning to add little coffee machines car rental glasgow airport , so you may want to bring your own.
The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were pretty hard. Bring your own pillows if you like/need a softer pillow! The beds are double sheeted, (nice touch), but the bedding car rental glasgow airport is very light, so you may need to ask for additional blankets of you want the feel of something on top of you when sleeping.
We'll take that last bit as evidence that the Plaza has not stepped it up in the bedding department . Meantime, CrileyTeach thought the Plaza had opened too soon , especially where the need for ice was concerned:
....there is NO ice! They told me after I searched for a 1/2 hour going to other floors trying to find an ice machine. I finely called & asked where the ice was. She kindly told me I could come down to the lobby, walk through the casino car rental glasgow airport & get a free bucket of ice. HOW KIND! I was now in my PJs & wanted to enjoy a lively spirit. I did not want to walk through a casino for a bucket of ice. I was told if I didn't want to do that I could call room service. Okay, goo I thought. I called & they informed me it was $2 for ice! SHEESH! so, not happy about that. I would have felt better if they told me at check in & if the bellman had offered to get a bucket of ice for me after I tipped him generously.
She wasn't the only TripAdvisor user to complain about ice and the lack thereof. Even our own VegasChatter member Barry I. took the time to write us earlier car rental glasgow airport this week about the Plaza's lack of chill. He shared with us the post he put up on the Plaza's Facebook page :
Had a nice stay this past weekend (my 2nd since the re-opening) but you've been open long enough that you really should have ice machines on the hotel floors by now. If you are not getting to that soon for some reason, then you should at least provide the bars with a large supply of bags that hotel guests can get ice in. If a guest leaves the casino or a restaurant, they shouldn't car rental glasgow airport have to go up to their room, get the ice bucket and bag, come back down to get ice at a bar and then finally go back to their room to enjoy a chilled beverage.
Also want to add that the garage elevator is ridiculously slow. Yes singular elevator as the one closer to the casino was shut down during our entire stay. There was almost always a line and even with only 5 floors, it would take an average of 4 minutes for the elevator car rental glasgow airport to complete a round trip which just makes the whole situation worse.
Something car rental glasgow airport easy to fix would be the elevator button lights. Seems that about 20% of them are not working and you see guests pressing it over and over to call the elevator and choose their floor not knowing that it's just the light now working. Really cheapens the appearance of an otherwise nice property and we all know that the cost and time to fix that would be minimal.
As we continued to read review after review car rental glasgow airport on TripAdvisor, the same complaints about no ice, no ironing board, no hair dryer seemed to be raised over and over. Creature comforts we've all come to expect to be among even the most basic of amenities. As one writer, pointed out even Motel 6 has 'em.
On the plus side, and to be fair, many TripAdvisor users wrote highly of the new flat-screen TVs, the great view (when you can get it) of Fremont Street , the great customer service, the improved plumbing ( attention, @GirlyGirl! ) and, quite a few commenters praised the visible security car rental glasgow airport presence . (Which means Downtown still has some work to do in the 'feel safe' department.)
It seems that it wouldn't take much more to make folks completely happy. car rental glasgow airport But, since sister casino, the Western, is about to fold , we're thinking these guest complaints won't be ironed out anytime soon. For most, though, the decision to stay at the Plaza will be based on a cool deal rather than a cold drink. Especially, with prices starting car rental glasgow airport at $23 a night . For those with a more generous budget, check out Barry I.'s video tour below of the Plaza's car rental glasgow airport two-bedroom suite.
