Can anyone suggest a company/specific pilot for a helicopter ride in the delta next month. We will be at Kwara and Duba Plains and want to do a one hour, doors off ride - primary interest is photography and possible aerial game viewing. If anyone has done this please comment on the experience, optimum time of day to be able to see otherwise inaccessible areas of the delta and game viewing. Is flying over concessions where one is not staying generally allowed? We would like to take the helicopter from either camp- my thought was the most convenient time would be one in which we are in-between game drives, car rentals in tampa meaning late morning early afternoon, but I'm not sure if this is the best time to do a flight.
The cheapest thing for you to do would be to charter a helicopter from Wilderness Safaris car rentals in tampa since you are already staying at Duba Plains. They have their own helicopter stationed at Vumbura Plains about 50 miles to the East. I chartered one in May 2010 and again in September 2011. In September we had to pay $10,000 for five hour. The going rate is about $1,500-$2,000 per hour. I have flown direct from Vumbura Plains to Duba Plains and it takes less than 30m on the helicopter. The flight from Duba to Kwara would be about 20m and the return from Kwara to Vumbura car rentals in tampa would be about 15m. Overall you need to pay for the 35 empty minutes (when you are not on it) plus your time when you are on it. The cheapest way to get helicopter time is to stay at Vumbura as there are no empty/dead legs for you to pay. I think Wilderness does it by the hour so you will need to do a 1 or 2 hour increment. car rentals in tampa The pilots name is Yuri and he used to be the at Eagle Island Camp in 2010 with Orient Express. I am not sure what happened to Anne.
I did not go on the September 2011 trip but Matt and Kelly from our office went and they took overhead video of every Wilderness Safari lodge in Botswana. They had to coordinate it all with the camp managers when guests were out on game drives so it was not easy. We have only finished cutting videos from Chitabe, Abu, Duba, and Mombo. Here is Duba (since you are staying there) and Mombo late in the dry season Sep 28, 2011.
For transportation on a set route, I can see the need at times for a helicopter. But it would be a shame if the lovely Botswana concessions had to contend with aerial car rentals in tampa distractions that were anything but very rare. That could be a huge deterrent to visitors.
The heli ride from Vumbura to Duba would be less than 10 minutes, and definitely less than Duba to Kwara. The surcharge between Duba and Vumbura for me was USD 50 (travelling charge between Vumbura and Duba since the heli is based out of Vumbura).
As I mentioned AKR1, in my PM, the cost was substantially less than what Craig has quoted here- seems Craig paid almost 80% more than what I did. Maybe they have a high season/green season pricing too But you are going in the same season I did.
Kelly and Matt had the helicopter and the pilot for two full days. What we paid for was five rotor hours (motor on). That is probably why it cost so much. We also had a staff member from Wilderness Safaris with for safety as Matt had to stand on the rails while filming.
Hi Luangwablondes - Let me clarify and I better disclaim this with to my knowledge . There used to be two helicopters permanently stationed in Botswana IN the Delta. One was at Vumbura Plains and one at Eagle Island. As far as I know, the one at Eagle Island is gone. Therefore, I would not say the use of helicopters is proliferating. Even if they were, they would simply replace fixed wing aircrafts since there are little car rentals in tampa or no additional beds being built on any of the major photo-concessions. The same number of people are still coming car rentals in tampa and going each year. Wilderness Safaris has, for the past two years, used their helicopter to transfer guests from Vumbura Plains to Mombo and vice versa. This is not guaranteed car rentals in tampa at the time of booking but it usually happens and is a surprise to the guests.

First, let s start with our Go Visit Hawaii recommendations that are a cheat sheet list of what to d

I completely understand the daunting task of planning your Hawaii vacation . If you ve never been to Hawaii, it s difficult enough to select which island(s) you want to visit . Once you ve selected an island, you have brief sense of accomplishment before you realize that you ve got to plan your itinerary.
We all want to make the most of our vacation fort lauderdale cheap car rental time. So, how do you get to see all the best sights and do all the best activities? How do you plan to see it all logistically? To find your ideal itinerary that suits your tastes, you ll have to do a bit of researching. fort lauderdale cheap car rental The good news is that there are some useful free online resources to aid you in your personal research.
First, let s start with our Go Visit Hawaii recommendations that are a cheat sheet list of what to do on each island. Though not in a itineary format, we ve heard over and over from readers that our recommendations resulted in amazing vacations.
Hawaiian Airlines has useful vacation itineraries. If you click on their trip details fort lauderdale cheap car rental button, the website will provide you with estimated time to allocate for each activity. fort lauderdale cheap car rental Here are links to their suggestions:
Frommer s also have itineraries suggestions for one-week Hawaii vacations. fort lauderdale cheap car rental Their recommendations are quite a bit more specific even to the point of recommending a few businesses. A big caution I have about Frommer s plans is that their day one arrival suggestions are way too ambitious! For example, on Maui they suggest you go to a luau on your arrival day. I can tell you from much experience, if you are coming from the Midwest or East Coast, there is absolutely fort lauderdale cheap car rental no way that you ll have the energy to enjoy a luau on the day of arrival. Still, I think their free vacation plans are still worth reviewing, though I wouldn t necessarily take all their recommendations on blind faith.
I hope this isn t tacky and I understand if you don t want to post this but this is what I do for a living! My main truealoha.com site (which needs an overhaul but I digress) shows what I provide. So far I haven t had a disappointed customer! I started it because I think family, friends and old co-workers were going to smack me if I didn t! LOL So I got certified through the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau as a destination specialist, quit my day job and here I am. The feedback I get is lots of people don t have the time to extensively research everything they want to do.
If you don t want to pay, other than the great resources you listed here word of mouth is always a great way to get some tips on places and restaurants. Of course perusing Hawaii oriented blogs almost always has some great tips or posts about places that may be off the beaten path!
I am trying fort lauderdale cheap car rental to cost out a trip for a group to Hawaii. Do you recommend any particular island to stay if it is a 6 day trip; arriving on Saturday departing on Saturday? How do you visit other islands?
Norma you can t make a bad choice between the 4 major islands Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Big Island. For 6 days, I don t recommend seeing any more than 2 islands but you d be best off just concentrating your time on one. There s so much to do and see on each island, you won t run out of things to do.
As Oahu and Maui are both islands, driving would be impossible. Stay outside of the Honolulu area on Oahu. Too commercial and city like. Food is VERY expensive in Hawaii. Be prepared. My 9 year old loved the jet skiing on Maui.
Since you have kids and are hoping to stay in a place that s not so expensive, I d recommend looking into a condo. Aston and Outrigger are two condo management companies you could look into. Also, if you have the time, you could consider VRBO.com. We ve found some awesome condos that way, but it can be time consuming.
fort lauderdale cheap car rental Hi I am looking for some top tips please help I would like to come over Xmas new year as it my big birthday this will be my dream holiday I will be coming with 4 boys ages 5 1113 is this a good time was thinking condo as my mum in law wants to come with myself and husband. Is this a good time ? Which island would love to sim with dolphins and I am a big elvis and 50 first dates fan ! Please recommend thanks look forward to hearing from u
we decided to trip for 7 nhts staying in mid Oct 12, 4 nhts in OAHU and 3 Nhts in Maui, planned to tour first day in Oahu with tours covering all the locations and later pick best and visit personally,
My husband and I are newlyweds and we are going to hawaii for 7 days at the beginning of December. Figured this would be one of our last trips before we start working on a family so we want it to be fun and romantic
We are flying fort lauderdale cheap car rental into Honolulu but we really want to experience two islands while we are out there. I have been doing a little research but cannot find itineraries for two island trips (general ones like how to get to one island to another, rent a car? Take the ferry? Etc ). We really want to see Oahu and Maui.
We are thinking to stay at Turtle Bay Resort for the first part of the trip and do more tourist types of things like the Dole farms, Pearl Harbour and just relaxing at the resort. Then we really want to go to Maui for the second part of the trip to do more adventurous activities. Lastly, back to Oahu for the last night (since we already booked our flights arriving and departing from Oahu).
Any helpful tips on getting to and from the islands would be great! Other tourist type things during December? Is December a good month to explore these two islands? Is it worth trying to visit both islands within 7 days? Actually, any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!
fort lauderdale cheap car rental With 7 days, I d encourage you to stick with either Maui or Oahu. When you consider the amount of time you spend packing, checking out of the hotel, returning fort lauderdale cheap car rental rental car, waiting for flight, flying, getting rental car, checking into next hotel, etc .you ve used a lot of valuable vacation time with not-so-fun travel logistics. There s really so much to do on each island.

TPG: please note that while booking thru Amex Travel does earn you one extra point beyond 3x you get

I ve had the  Sapphire Preferred card  for several months now and the portion of my total spend on the card keeps increasing. I ve extolled the benefits latin quartier short term accommodation of this card many times and I firmly believe this is the best overall travel card on the market right now at least for the savvy points latin quartier short term accommodation collector especially with the current 50,000 point sign-up bonus (53,500 after you factor in the yearly 7% bonus on all points earned) and waived $95 annual fee.
I also love the fact that you earn two points per dollar on travel and dining, since as I ve said before that s basically all I do. However, it hit me the other day that I didn t know exactly what was included in Travel since it s a pretty broad category. Honestly, I thought it would just include airfare, hotel and rental car but it actually includes much more. I asked my contact at Chase to clarify and she confirmed the 2x points on travel actually includes:
So honestly, this is much more than what we traditionally think of as travel. If you live in a city where you take taxis, the 2x points could add up quickly. The only things I don t put on my Sapphire Preferred is airfare, because I get 4 points per dollar when booking through Amex Travel  using my Premier Rewards Gold card and gas and groceries, which my Premier Rewards card gives 2x. Everything else will go on Sapphire, because I value Ultimate Rewards points and the instant 1:1 transfers to Continental, United, British Airways, Korean Air, Hyatt, Marriott, Priority Club and Amtrak. Amex points are still valuable since they often run lucrative transfer bonuses, but if Chase ever matched them in that department, I d shift even more spend away from Amex.
So yea, anytime you think something might qualify for travel, you might as well use your Sapphire Preferred card. And if a charge doesn t post as you expect, I know many people have had success calling Chase (live phone reps always answer) and making a case for the bonus points. Heck, I just purchased my Oneworld Mega Do  tickets with my Sapphire Preferred can t hurt to try and get 2x points on that!
I have been able to get almost 4 points per $ on travel with this card. I recently booked flights to India using travelocity (thru UR portal). They give you 2X points (for tickets only taxes) + 2X for travel transaction. latin quartier short term accommodation Its almost close to 4 points per $.
Do we know if there is a way to see exactly how many points we earn for what (like a rewards statement latin quartier short term accommodation or something)? It drives me crazy to see the points add up but not know where the points are coming from so that I can get even more.
The 7% counts towards all points earned in a given year regardless latin quartier short term accommodation of how they were earned. So the promotional points at acquisition as well as any bonus points earned through the year will be included.
Yes, you can see your earnings in the shopping portal on a link to the left. The big caveat with travelocity is the not any sort of taxes count, so make sure what your base fare is before booking a big airline ticket. May not be worth it
How does SPG Amex fit into your spend, if at all? I do Gold Premiere for airfare (3x), gas groceries (2x), Sapphire for non-Marriott hotels all dining (2x), Marriott card for Marriott stays (5x), Platinum Amex for benefits like lounge access, but had been using SPG for all else b/c I thought I read point accrual was fastest with them. What about SPG?
That s another thing Amex is still killing Chase at itemizing latin quartier short term accommodation transactions with bonus points. I, too, like to know where my bonus points are coming from, which vendors may or may not be categorized for travel or dining, but no Chase doesn t want to provide us with that transparency.
oh yes i was right to get nasty when I Discover and Amex Blue sky all classify Time Share annual mainteance fees as Travel when Chase Freedom latin quartier short term accommodation excluded it as Travel to qualify for the 5 % rebate in the 3rd quarter.
a point to repeat : When CHase Freedom cards has the 5 % rebate GET CREATIVE: I was prepaying my 2012 maintenance fees Postpone all charity givings until this quarter and also use up the 5 % allowance on dining on Freedom card ( or cards, Visa and Master Card) Discover on 4th quarter as well or leverage more through bigcrumbs to book travel on Expedia.. Chase 5 % is the top priority
I just signed up for the Sapphire Preferred card (using your link of course) and plan to use it for all travel except airfare as well. I ll also use my Gold Premier Rewards latin quartier short term accommodation card for airfare, but I thought I was just getting the 3x points. I did not know anything about 4x points for booking on the Amex website, nor do I see anything about that listed latin quartier short term accommodation anywhere. I even called up Amex and they didn t know what I was talking about. Did the person I speak with just not know? Do I get this automatically or do I need to sign up for something? Thanks TPG!
Travel booked through Amex travel gets 2x (1 extra point from regular 1x earning) Membership Rewards points. Since the PRG s base earning is 3x, you get an extra point per dollar just like the other cards, so it ends up being 4x. This was confirmed by American Express.
This card is even better when combined latin quartier short term accommodation with the Freedom Visa. You can get 5% on rotating categories like travel and groceries, and if you max out those bonus points the effective average annual cash back on some categories (depending on your total spending) can be over 2%. For people like me who don t spend a ton and can t justify the high annual fees of AMEX cards, this is a better deal.
So I m looking at applying for the Chase Saphire Preferred and combine it with the Chase freedom and the Chase checking account. But then my question is, which one do I use more often of the two? With the %7 percent annual bonus from the Saphire Preferred, does that include ALL points you earn, even the ones on the Freedom card? Or am I then better off using the Freedom card with the 10 + 10% deal, or does that also work when making a Preferred purchase. Also, is there any benefit to doing this quick to snag the 7% annual bonus before the year ends?
TPG: please note that while booking thru Amex Travel latin quartier short term accommodation does earn you one extra point beyond 3x you get from PRG, Amex charges service fees which can in many cases negate your extra point earnings. latin quartier short term accommodation By comparison there is no service fees booking through latin quartier short term accommodation UR thus 3x is comparable to Amex PRG. As suggested by another poster, booking through Travelocity via UR earns you a little less than 4x since Travelocity excludes taxes and fees in calculation (however for international airfare with big fuel surcharges you probably don t want to use this technique). Then if you are into cashback sites, Travelocity booking via Big Crumbs earns 4.8% and Expedia earns 6.4% combined with PRG these will generate the best return.
I m looking for an opinion. Husband just got Saphire Preferred with 100k bonus. I have two saphire offers in the mail regular saphire and preferred both 50k. If I go for the regular saphire can I transfer my UR points into his account or do I have to have the preferred latin quartier short term accommodation to do that?
If you log into your credit card account, then go to Ultimate Rewards, there is a pull-down menu labeled Earn Faster, then Combine Ultimate Rewards Points. It appears you need to be logged into the account you want to send points from, then you enter the credit card number you want to send points latin quartier short term accommodation to, the card holder s last name, and the amount of points latin quartier short term accommodation you want to transfer.
I have read on Flyertalk that this will work with any type of Ultimate Rewards points (such as a Freedom card or regular Sapphire card). I have not tested this yet as my husband and I haven t made specific plans for our points yet. It s pretty cool you can transfer between accounts online without talking to anyone. You can also transfer Ultimate Rewards points (if you have the Sapphire Preferred card) to anyone s airline or hotel account.
The online latin quartier short term accommodation statement doesn t categorize transactions, but Chase s iPhone app does. All of my restaurant charges show as Dining and Entertainment . Does anyone know if this category matches the dining latin quartier short term accommodation category for double points, latin quartier short term accommodation and, if so, whether latin quartier short term accommodation non-dining charges in this category latin quartier short term accommodation would therefore get double points, too?
I clicked on TPG s link about 2-3 weeks ago to get the $200 offer but after your post i looked it up and was able to easily able to find a link for $300 bonus. So i sent chase a secure message just like TPG suggested in a past post which many of us did for the 50,000point latin quartier short term accommodation bonus for the sapphire (which i failed) and it worked latin quartier short term accommodation and will be getting the points. So if anyone else has missed out, It never hurt to ask.
Hmmm, I wonder if the $1,000 or more I spend through a limo company for a shuttle bus for my wedding guests will count Very intriguing I ll definitely be booking that with my Sapphire card. My wedding has been a miles/points bonanza latin quartier short term accommodation so far!
How big a factor are employment status and income in the application? My income s nothing right now while I live off savings, latin quartier short term accommodation and although I have a high-700s credit score and plenty of assets and great credit history with Amex, I worry that, without job+income, Chase will deny me. Chances? Don t want to waste the hard pull.
DONT count WALMART as department store either does not go with CHase Freedom 5 % Department category ; a get around solution: you can buy Home Depot gift cards at Grocery stores and get 5 % rebate on Freedom and go on to shop at Home depo in 1st quarter of the year while Chase does NOT give 5 % on Home Depo ( home improvement category)
I know this certainly works: get into your hubby s Sapphire Preferred as Athorized User l but according to the writeup here looks like my neighbors can sell their freedom points to me and trasnfer them into my daughter s Sapphire Preferred on which I am an suthorized user
I was working on BA s spend so I got my daughter to open the Sapphire Preferred so I am only a AU on Preferred. My next card to get is certainly the Sapphire Preferred for myself and also for my credit freak wife

This was the perfect option for our family. We are active visitors and the condo was perfectly located for walks to beaches, markets and in to Kona for meals and shopping. (Our daughter LOVED the large water slide in the Kona Garden Market which was less than a ½ mile up the road!) The reserved parking spot ensured the rental car for trips to the volcano and other beaches was not a problem. The condo itself was well supplied tours washington dc with towels, kitchen items, linens, boogie boards and snorkeling gear. We never needed the A/C because of the large ceiling fans which kept the unit nice and cool all day. It was the perfect tours washington dc arrangement for myself, my husband and our 14 year-old daughter.
My ONLY hesitation in recommending this to absolutely everyone is that we witnessed a young couple with small children who were not treated well by the other (permanent?) residents tours washington dc in the condos. The young couple followed all of the rules of the pool – swim diapers, no child in the pool alone, children were polite, kept the noise level down – and they were still told to leave the pool by another resident of the condo complex as one of the children was in swim diapers. The large pool sign said swim diapers were fine – a small one posted tours washington dc in the restrooms said they were not. We felt bad for the family as they were really conscious of trying to be quiet and polite. This was the only "bummer" moment of the entire trip. (How do you tell a little one that there is that nice big pool in the middle of everything – but they can't use it? That's just not fair!)
Aloha Jeanette, I completely agree with your comments. We love children and can't imagine a pool without them. I will pass them on to the management to see how we can make improvements. Mahalo nui for the mention about the water slide at the Kona Garden Market! We look forward to your return.
This was my second stay at Tropical Breeze in the past six months. My first was to get engaged and my second was to get married. The house, the grounds, and the accomodations were simply perfect. tours washington dc Clean, well-maintainded, and absolutely turnkey with respect to arriving and leaving, this is the perfect way to end a long trip to get to Hawaii . I will be recommending to any friends visiting the islands.
We loved this condo because it was located tours washington dc close to Kona and the beach. The bed was so comfortable and the couch easy to relax on. We enjoyed the well equiped, updated kitchen and ate breakfast on the lanai every morning. They have a book of ideas on places to go and restaurants to dine and we found it very helpful during our stay. The owners are so kind and thoughtful, making sure our visit was just perfect, which it was! We plan to book this place again when we return to the Islands!
I so appreciate the thought and consideration you put into creating a wonderful vacation home away from home. The kitchen contained everything I could possibly need or want for meal preparation and entertaining and the linens were wonderful. I especially enjoyed meals on the lanai with wonderful sunsets and friendly gecko visits. The water feature is a pleasant addition. The boogie boards were a welcome surprise and saw a few good waves on Hapuna beach. You provide everything to facilitate a wonderfully relaxing and fulfilling time on the magnificent Kona Coast. Mahalo, until next time!
Shannon, I was more then impressed by your lovely comfortable rental. I loved how clean and fully stocked the condo was. It was above and beyond what I had expected. The Patio area was perfect for dinners witht he sun setting. The best surprise was the Gorgeous bed! We also enjoyed movies tours washington dc on the flat screen TV in the living tours washington dc room. The air conditioning worked great as well. We enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to come back! Many thanks! Mahalo!
Shannon, How do I begin? The condo...modern, beautiful, everything we could have wanted or needed...and even more than we expected. The bed was almost tours washington dc too pretty tours washington dc to sleep on. The entire condo was equally beautiful and everything, everything was immaculate! Nothing was left out or missing. Based on your suggestions, we had many days of adventuring but returned home each evening to a restful dinner on the lanai and hours of the of the Pacific splashing and crashing a few feet away. It was wonderful watching the fishing fleet go out en -masse each morning as we enjoyed our Kona on the lanai while playing peek-a-boo with the unbelievably- colored geikos. They finally decided we were no threat and would sun themselves as we relaxed nearby. T

Take a Helicopter Tour of Kauai on Your Hawaii Vacation Home Blog About HVB About Bruce Contributors Which Island to Choose? See Kauai From Above on Your Hawaii Vacation
Just about everybody who has visited several of the Hawaiian islands has a favorite. Oahu is the most cosmopolitan and has the most attractions. The Big Island has its expanse, the volcanoes and the sunny Kona Coast. Maui has Haleakala and a variety of splendid resorts. Most will agree that Kauai offers the most spectacular natural wonders.
There are good reasons on all the islands to consider hiring a helicopter and seeing things from the air, but that option is particularly appropriate on the Garden Isle of Kauai . The island s west side offers Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast, which are both must-sees.
Waimea Canyon is more than 3,000 feet deep and gives you stunning panoramic views of crested buttes, rugged crags, and deep valley gorges. The vistas go on for miles. The canyon measures 10 miles long and a mile wide. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale s summit. The lines in the canyon walls depict different volcanic eruptions and lava flows that have occurred over the centuries. Even though it s smaller than the Grand Canyon of Arizona, Waimea Canyon s beauty is comparable. If you re exploring by car, the main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, will lead you to several lookout points that provide awesome views of Kauai s dramatic interior. The road continues hotels in orlando fl into the mountains and ends at Kokee State Park. There are numerous trails to traverse for beginners hotels in orlando fl and seasoned hikers. You can pick up trail maps at the Ranger s Station, which is located at the Kokee Museum.
The Na Pali Coast , on the other hand, is inaccessible to automobiles and can be best seen by hiking, hotels in orlando fl boating (especially in kayaks) or from a helicopter. The Nā Pali Coast State Park encompasses 6,175 acres of land and is located in the center of the rugged sixteen miles along the northwest side of the island. The pali, or cliffs , rise to 4,000 feet above the ocean. Since it s inaccessible to automobiles, this coast can be enjoyed only by hiking, boating (often in kayaks) or from a helicopter. The Kalalau Trail provides the only land access, hotels in orlando fl traversing eleven miles and crossing five major valleys (and countless smaller ones) before reaching Kalalau Beach at the base of Kalalau Valley.
A helicopter ride of about an hour will offer you wonderful views of not only Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast, but also the Bali Hai Cliffs (Remember South Pacific? ), Hanalei Bay and the Princeville Resort area. If weather permits, you ll fly into the center of the crater of Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on earth.
The trip will cost slightly upwards of $200 per person, and it will be worth every penny. Pick an agent from the Hawaii-Aloha Website or call 1-800-843-8771. We ll see to it that you get the most from your Kauai visit at the best possible price.

Situated nearly at the center of the north Pacific Ocean, Hawaii philadelphia eagles playoff tickets marks the northeast corner of Polynesia . While it was once a major hub for the whaling, sugar and pineapple industries, it is now economically dependent on tourism and the U.S. military. The natural beauty of the islands continues to be one of Hawaii's greatest assets. Honolulu is the state's capital, largest city, and cultural hub. Hawaiian and English are the official languages philadelphia eagles playoff tickets of Hawaii.
Hawaii is an archipelago of over nineteen distinct volcanic islands located over a geological "hot spot" in the Central Pacific. The Pacific plate on which the islands ride moves to the northwest, so in general the islands are older and smaller (due to erosion) as you move from southeast to northwest. There are eight major islands, six of which are open to tourism.
Hawaii ( Hawaiʻi ) – almost always called the Big Island to avoid confusion – is the largest of the islands and home to Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa (the largest and one of the most active volcanoes on Earth), Hawaii Volcanoes philadelphia eagles playoff tickets National Park [2] , coffee and macadamia nut plantations, working ranches, and even green sand beaches. Kailua-Kona is the busiest part of the island on the dry, leeward side, and near the mega-resort Kohala Coast area with nearly zero annual precipitation. The saddle road (quite passable and a must see--despite what rental car companies say) passes between the massive volcanoes and connects Kohala with Hilo , the largest town on the windward side with annual precipitation of more than 300 inches per year. Unlike anywhere else on Earth and definitely worth a look.
Oahu ( Oʻahu ), nicknamed "the Gathering Place," is the most populous and developed island. Its southern shore is home to the city of Honolulu , the state capital and largest philadelphia eagles playoff tickets city; four out of every five kama'aina (Hawaii residents) call it home. It is the governmental and commercial center of the state, and Waikiki Beach is arguably the best known tourist destination in Hawaii. Outside the city are pineapple fields, and the North Shore of Oahu, which is known each winter as the home of some of the largest waves in the world. The USS Arizona National Memorial at Pearl Harbor is also very popular visitor destination.
Maui is the second largest island in the chain and is home to 10,023 foot (3,055 m) tall volcanic mountain crater of Haleakala. It is nicknamed "the Valley Isle" for the narrow plain between Haleakala and the West Maui mountains. On the west side of the island are the resort areas of Lahaina , Kaanapali and Kapalua , while the south side is home to Kihei , and Wailea philadelphia eagles playoff tickets . On the east side is the tiny village of Hana , reached by one of the most winding and beautiful roads in the world.
Kauai ( Kauaʻi ), the "Garden Isle," is home to several natural wonders, such as the Wailua River, Waimea Canyon, and the Na Pali Coast. Mount Waialeale is known as one of the rainiest spots in the world.
Niihau ( Niʻihau ) is a privately owned island with an entirely Native Hawaiian population. Until very recently, philadelphia eagles playoff tickets the island was off limits to all but family members and invited guests of the owners. Tourism to the island is limited to helicopter, ATV, and hunting excursions originating on Kauai.
The reef triggerfish ( Rhinecanthus rectangulus ), the state fish of Hawaii, is known in the Hawaiian language as the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa , which means "triggerfish with a snout like a pig". It is not the longest Hawaiian fish name, as is often thought; that distinction instead goes to the lauwiliwilinukunukuʻoiʻoi ("long-snouted fish shaped like a wiliwili leaf"), the butterflyfish ( Forcipiger longirostris philadelphia eagles playoff tickets ).
Where tourism is concerned, Hawaii has something for everyone. The island of Oahu, the most populous and home to the state capital and largest city of Honolulu, is great for people who wish to experience the islands and still keep the conveniences of a large city. Rainforests and hiking trails philadelphia eagles playoff tickets are located just minutes from Waikiki Beach, one of the world's best tourist destinations. In the winter, large waves on Oahu's north shore turn the normally sleepy area into the surfing capital of the world.
On the other hand, those who wish to experience Hawaii at a slower pace would do well to visit one of the Neighbor Islands (the other, less populated islands around Oahu). All the neighbor islands offer opportunities to relax and enjoy the sun and scenery. Many of the natural wonders of the Islands are located philadelphia eagles playoff tickets on the Neighbor Islands, from Waimea Canyon on Kauai, to Haleakala on Maui, to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. Numerous philadelphia eagles playoff tickets waterfalls and rainforests evoke memories of what the islands might have looked like before major corporations philadelphia eagles playoff tickets set their sights on Hawaii. The road to Hana is one of the most scenic on Maui, as you manipulate many turns overlooking the Eastern coast of the island. It leads you over bridges and past beautiful waterfalls. Ultimately, you can end up at the Oheo Gulch Pools (which are not sacred and there's more than seven), where the hiking is quite the experience.
On 11 October 2009, Father Damien philadelphia eagles playoff tickets de Veuster (1840-1889), philadelphia eagles playoff tickets a Belgian priest who came to the island of Molokai in 1864 to treat victims of leprosy - and eventually succumbed to the disease - was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.
Polynesians migrated to, and established communities on, the islands of Hawaii before the arrival of Captain James Cook in 1778, who is widely credited as the first European visitor to the islands. philadelphia eagles playoff tickets At that time, each island was a separate kingdom. With the support of western advisors and weapons, Kamehameha I of the island of Hawaii conquered all the islands except Kauai, which acquiesced to his rule in 1810.
After Kamehameha II abolished the kapu (taboo) system, American missionaries came to the islands to spread Christianity. As the ancient Hawaiians did not have any concept philadelphia eagles playoff tickets of owning land the missionaries became official land owners of many of the islands. Their children would later become successful businessmen in the Islands and still own entire philadelphia eagles playoff tickets islands to this day. Pineapple and sugar cane plantations were established, philadelphia eagles playoff tickets and workers from other countries (in particular Japan, the Philippines, China, and Korea) were imported as contract laborers. Later, their descendants would also become established as successful professionals.
The Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown in 1893 by a group of American businessmen. While the U.S. administration at the time refused philadelphia eagles playoff tickets to annex the former sovereign nation, in 1898 the United States did annex the islands, which became a territory in 1900, and a state of the United States in 1959.
Hawaii also became an important outpost for the U.S. military through the 20th century, and Pearl Harbor was the site of the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, that resulted in the U.S. joining World War II. Today, the military maintains its presence here, with several major military bases on the island philadelphia eagles playoff tickets of Oahu alone; Pearl Harbor remains the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Over the years, many major retail chains have expanded their presence in Hawaii, making the Islands look more and more like the continental United States, often at the expense of local businesses. Nevertheless, Hawaii remains culturally vibrant. Its population, descended from the Native Hawaiians, the original plantation workers, and more recent arrivals, and in which no one group has a majority, is often cited as an example of multiculturalism at its best. There is a strong commitment to perpetuating native Hawaiian cultural traditions, as well as the cultural heritage of Hawaii's many immigrant communities from the Pacific, Asia and Europe. And certainly the environment is conducive to longevity...Hawaii has the longest philadelphia eagles playoff tickets predicted life expectancies philadelphia eagles playoff tickets of any U.S. state.
philadelphia eagles playoff tickets Depending on where you're located in Hawaii, the weather can be very different over even short distances. philadelphia eagles playoff tickets On the same day, on Oahu you might find sun over the beaches in Waikiki and rain only a few miles away in Manoa Valley.
Although the islands receive abundant amounts of both sunshine and rain, rain is more likely on the north and east sides of the islands, which face the prevailing northeasterly tradewinds (the "windward" side of the island), as well as the mountain peaks and valleys. The moist tropical air carried by the tradewinds is forced upward by the mountains, resulting in clouds and rain. Rain is less likely on the coastal areas of the "leeward" sides (the south and west sides) of the islands.
philadelphia eagles playoff tickets Although there are no true "seasons" in the islands in the same sense as the rest of the U.S., the climate does go through annual cycles based on rainfall. The "wet" season in Hawaii (cooler temperatures and more rainfall) runs roughly philadelphia eagles playoff tickets from October to March, and the "dry" season (warmer temperatures and less rainfall) from April to September. There is therefore a higher probability of rain if you visit during the peak of tourist season in late December or January.
Hurricane philadelphia eagles playoff tickets season in the islands runs from June to November. Although Hawaii's relative isolation means that it is affected only rarely by tropical cyclones, a destructive storm will occasionally hit the Islands, such as Hurricanes Iwa and Iniki hitting Kauai in 1982 and 1992 respectively.
Overall, Hawaii is warm and balmy — when you step out of the plane you'll immediately notice that the air is soft and humid — and during the summer months the tradewinds provide a pleasant breeze. Daytime temperatures generally range from the low 80s (27°C) in "winter" to the high 80s (31°C) in "summer". Very rarely does the air temperature exceed 90 F (32 C) even in the hottest part of summer; however, the humidity will make it feel as if it were a few degrees hotter. Ocean temperatures range between 77°F (25°C) philadelphia eagles playoff tickets degrees in the winter to 82°F (28°C) in the summer. There is
