Although Mayor Michael Bloomberg has given the New York City marathon the green light to move forward with its Nov. 4 event less than a week after Hurricane Sandy made landfall devastating much of the city one hotel on Staten Island, a place were residents are saying help has been hard to come by, is taking a stand.

If they take one first responder from Staten Island to cover this marathon, I will scream, New York City Councilman James Oddo said on his Twitter account. We have people with no homes and no hope right now.

That running can wait. Who cares if they have reservations? They have a home to go to it and if they cannot help, then go home. Who needs to see those people run? There are people who are running for their very life and need a place to keep warm, eat and sleep. Kick all of them out who have homes to go to. This is an emergency.
I am so proud of that Hotel that it brings tears to my eyes. Why the Mayor didn t postpone or cancel the Marathon is beyond words. God Bless all the victims and I pray they all get the needed help and hugs sooner then later.
That should be the right thing to do. Tell them to run later. How stupid can 40 thousand people be to run like that during a crisis. They need to take all that energy and pull together and help those in need or get their butts home to their warm and comfortable surroundings.
I think it was not the best of ideas to not postpone that race. I know you are trying to get back to normal Bloomberg but the city can t support the participants or fans of that race right now. Take care of your citizen s and then worry about promotion. Most will understand.
