That's $1.29 billion in change fees, plus $1.75 billion in bag fees, or $3.04 billion combined. That compares to the first half of 2011's numbers: $1.21 billion in change fees, $1.67 billion in bag fees, $2.88 billion combined.
Most airlines reported an increase travel and entertainment sports in collections from both sources. But if you look at the revenue from change fees and bag fees, it made up a smaller percentage of operating revenues in 2012 than in 2011.
In the following chart, you'll see that the numbers for Southwest Airlines are declining. That's because we've added Southwest and AirTran Airways together. Their numbers were reported separately to the BTS in 2011 and Q1 2012, but together in Q2 2012. We've combined them for all periods.
Also, we take note that the BTS broke out separate numbers in 2011 for United travel and entertainment sports Airlines and Continental Airlines. They're operating as a single operation now, so the BTS had combined travel and entertainment sports them in 2012. We've combined them for both years for comparison purpose.
And a third note: We have Frontier Airlines fees from the BTS. But we don t have its operating revenues since it s part of Republic Airways, and therefore couldn t calculate a percentage of fees to total operating revenues.
