just got back from 2 weeks at divi village and spent way too much time at alhambra. had an interesting conversation with sandra, one of the pit bosses. she says when a casino opens it get 10 years with out paying taxes. apparently what happens is after 10 years they close for renovations , but in fact they change cheap airline tickets in canadian prices the name of the company that owns the casino and then get another 10 years tax free. seems like that makes it way to easy to get around paying taxes. also noticed that alhambra is starting to remodel, but will do it in small steps so they don't have to close and lose money.
I knew that applied to hotels, but did not realize it applied to the casinos themselves. Interesting. Still, there are a number that have made it 20 years or more with the same name, including the Alhambra. I guess name brand could be worth more than the taxes.
Impossible to say. Like most things, it's all a matter of taste. Do you like casinos that are elegant, hip, casual, have good odds, are modern/retro, that are wide open or have an intimate feeling, have a lot to see, have a lot of other gamblers v. not so many, that is convenient, that has good memories for you...and on and on and on. What is your favorite casino?
