Mottaret is considered to be the satellite resort of Meribel and is a couple of miles up the valley.

Meribel was founded by Peter Lindsay, an Englishman in 1938, and retained is strong British influence and presence. Consisting of two major resort villages, casino and hotels in las vegas Meribel  occupies the Trois Vallees central valley network. Its original resort is constructed on a west-facing steep hillside, along with the home piste beside it. The hillside continues until it reaches the major lift stations at the bottom of the valley and the village center.
The entire original resort now spreads from the piste and the centre, giving rise to the various quarters. Mussillon is one among these quarters, which lies beside the road to the resort and has quite a few individual chalets. Continuing from there is the road that goes on into the woods and leads to the Altiport outpost. Another road continues under the home piste to Belvedere, which is a newly developed area.

Meribel is considered to be the most tastefully built and designed French purpose-built resort. It comprises of chalet-style, wood-clad buildings that are low-rise. The entire village of Meribel is built in style and has a sense of charm to it.
Even though most of the lodgings are located near the piste, quite a few tourists and locals prefer using the free public buses and private minibuses to commute up and down these slopes. A collection of restaurants and shops are present at various casino and hotels in las vegas points along the slopes, so that the tourists don't have to keep going to the centre if they need anything.
Cars are usually used for other outings to neighboring resorts such as the Tarentaise. Tourists are also allowed to go to La Plagne through Champagny, which can be used to get to the village as well.
