Renting a car can become expensive in Costa Rica, especially during high season. In the month of December and January, you sometimes have to pay twice the amount than you would have to pay in May or October. The reason behind these high rental rates are several:
Lack of cars in high season. As there is a peak in demand over Christmas and Eastern, during these dates most rental companies would be out of cars. For the few remaining cars they would charge much higher rates.
If you rent at one of the large rental agencies (Budget, Hertz, National) you have to calculate approx. with the following WEEKLY rates for a small to midsized 4 4 car, including free miles and basic insurance.
It is also possible, to find much cheaper rental cars at one of the local rental companies. The best rates of any official car rental are usually offered by WILD RIDER. While their main business is motorcycle rental, they also have a fleet of not-so-new 4 4 cars which they rent at much lower prices then the big guys. Fairly good rates can be also found at Mapache Car Rental or Tricolor Car Rental.
car rentals denver In the local newspapers you can also find rental cars in the classified ad section, starting as low as $35 per day. However, in most cases these will be private persons renting their own cars, which usually car rentals denver do not count with a proper rental insurance. In most cases, these cars will be large and older off-road vehicles, with a US-type fuel consumption and very few miles to a gallon. (Fuel prices are around $1,10/liter or $3,80 per gallon).
