But several Chevrolet Corvettes and other classic vehicles were on display at the Corvettes of Lancaster Cruise-In before the storm hit. That included Dave Hiles, and his 1962 Dodge pickup truck. The truck was once used by Phillips Awning in Lancaster.
Hiles paid $20 in September for an Advent Christian Church lottery ticket and won the truck. He said it is now valued at $20,000 and sold for $1,700 in 1962. It was in decent shape when Hiles won it, but it did need some work.
"Oh, it's nice," he said. "It's a sports car, but it's luxury. I started out when I was a kid with a 1966 white convertible. But now this 2011 is a whole different ballgame. It just rides better, it handles better and everything works better."
"I've been a Ford guy all my life," he said. "I've had Mustangs, but I told my wife I've always wanted a Corvette. I retired in November and I decided I was going to find me a car. I went and drove a new Mustang, but I said I still wanted a Corvette. So I bought a Corvette instead."
