The proprietors of SoHo Wine and Martini Bar and Waxy O Connors are partnering rental car comparisons to open a bar in downtown Austin. The opening date was scheduled for later this month, but it s looking more like mid-February or early March. It turns out Austin s permitting process is just a laborious as San Antonio s.
It s called CU-29 Cocktail Bar which is what copper goes by in the Periodic Table of Elements (right there between nickel and zinc). There s already rental car comparisons a SoHo in Austin, so naming the bar after its flagship was not an option. SoHo bartenders use copper equipment in much of what they do, hence the name.
We use a lot of copper elements copper bowls for frothing egg whites it just works better, SoHo co-owner Ron Herrera said. Copper rental car comparisons ball-makers to make those perfect ice cubes, those spheres. We just use copper for a lot of different things.
They tend to stay to the classics, which is great, but we re going to stick out a little bit more because we like to do our own style, our own unique twist to cocktail making, rental car comparisons Herrera said. Whether it s coming up with dessert cocktails or unique combinations.
The venture is one by Herrera, his SoHo business partner/head bartender Lutfy Flores, and Phil Bentley and Gina Capinelli, co-owners of Waxy O Connor s on the River Walk. SoHo bartender Breck Cowan will be moving to Austin to serve as head bartender at CU-29.
In San Antonio, SoHo is located at 214 W. Crockett St., and Waxy O Connors is just below it on the River Walk. Since opening in April 2006, SoHo has carved out the niche of not having a niche. It s a bar for everyone with a bent toward satisfying locals. You can order a high-end cocktail or a Miller Lite and nobody is going to judge or look at you funny, either way.
Full disclosure: rental car comparisons I ve said it so many times on this blog that I m starting to get sick of it, but SoHo is by far the best bar downtown, and I ve been drinking there since before I started this blog in June 2008.
